Overview of Medical Tourism

Medical tourism encompasses the terms medical travel, global healthcare, and health tourism, and describes the practice of people traveling to receive medical treatment, whether necessary or elective. Alternatively, it also refers to the travel of health care providers to deliver healthcare to people in other countries. Medical tourism is becoming an increasingly popular practice among those who wish to have options when it comes to their healthcare. The services offered in a medical tourism setting are almost limitless and could include heart surgery, join replacement surgery, cosmetic surgery, dental surgery, and even in vitro fertilization. Furthermore, medical tourism can involve alternative treatments, psychiatry, and convalescent care. Those concerned about the quality of care in regard to medical tourism can look to the U.S.-based Joint Commission International, among other companies, which inspects and accredits healthcare facilities outside of U.S. Borders. Savvy patients will look for a facility or hospital that is accredited by a respected source when considering treatment abroad.

Interestingly, medical tourism is not as nouveau as many believe. While it has certainly experienced an increase in popularity in recent years, the concept of traveling for healthcare dates back many centuries. The ancient Greeks were known to travel to a territory called Epidauria, in the Saronic Gulf of the Mediterranean, to seek healing from the god Asklepios. Even early spas can, in retrospect, be called medical tourism. In the 1700s, people from all around England traveled to the small village of Bath to partake in the supposed healing waters of the natural mineral springs. Americans, as well as citizens of other First World countries such as Europe, Japan, Canada, and the Middle East are opting to seek medical treatment outside of their own borders. In 2007, it is estimated that approximately 750,000 Americans sought medical treatment abroad, and that number was projected to double in 2008.

Medical tourism continues to increase in popularity because of the many benefits that are associated with receiving medical treatment abroad. The primary benefits of medical tourism include cost, convenience, and the ability to combine travel to exotic locals with high-quality medical treatment. Those who reside in countries with lower health standards participate in medical tourism as a means to receive medical treatment that is superior to what is available at home. However, those from First World countries are more likely to travel for medical reasons. It is generally cited that people from countries such as the U.S., Great Britain, and Canada generally possess more wealth; that coupled with their high expectations of healthcare in general, leads First World citizens to seek out alternative options, whether on the surgery table or the psychiatrist's couch.

The primary reason that people elect to receive medical treatment abroad is cost. Even those with insurance may opt to travel for medical care, especially when the entire cost of the trip, including treatment, can be accomplished for far less than the cost of an insurance deductible. Those savings, coupled with the promise of a vacation to a far-off land, make medical tourism an attractive incentive to many. While it is normal to save as much as 50% on overall costs, in some cases the savings can be substantially more. Those traveling to India and Costa Rica can expect to save as much as 80-90% overall on some treatments when compared to the costs in North America or the British Isles. Medical tourists traveling to Thailand for heart surgery can expect to pay only 20% of what they would pay in the United States. Knee and hip replacement surgeries can cost anywhere between $25,000 and $50, 000 in the United States, but can cost as little as $5000 in countries like Columbia and India.

While the cost alone is certainly enough to get the attention of many people disillusioned with healthcare, there are other reasons that prompt people to grab their passports and head out on a dual-purpose journey. For many, convenience and speed are among the most-cited reasons for health travel. While there are many benefits to public healthcare, such as the system that is operated in Canada, a severe downside is the wait time that is often required for non-emergency care. To many, waiting six months for a hip replacement surgery is not only ludicrous, it's not an option. This is especially true considering that it is possible to travel to a medical tourism destination and receive a new hip in the matter of days or weeks. For those who cannot, or are not willing to, wait for health care, medical tourism is an increasingly attractive option.

It would be remiss to discuss medical tourism without addressing the risks involved. Those who reside in countries with high standards of living, the conditions in some countries that provide treatment to tourists is less than ideal. This is why it is important to seek out hospitals and treatment facilities that are accredited. In countries were political and other domestic issues can make travel dangerous, many companies that organize medical treatment abroad often provide case managers to assist with medical and non-medical issues both before and after travel. Because lower standards of living often carry the risk of infectious disease such as tuberculosis, typhoid, HIV, and amoebic dysentery, to name a few, it is important for medical tourists to consider all related health risks before embarking on a journey. Additionally, medical tourists that are generally ill should consider the risks associated with long flights, climate changes, and fatigue in general. Finally, medical tourists should consider cultur al and language barriers that might make the situation difficult.

Those considering medical tourism should also be aware of legal and ethical issues that may be present. Because laws and opportunities for litigation are different in other countries, people need to be aware of their rights when it comes to receiving medical care in another country. As far as ethics are concerned, medical tourists should be aware of issues surrounding organs and tissues that could be purchased illegally. Many naysayers cite that citizens of countries where medical tourism is growing in popularity often have trouble receiving healthcare because most doctors are focused on the foreigners who are coming into the country to receive medical treatment.

Overall, many proponents of medical tourism, or health travel, believe that the risks outweigh the benefits, especially when a person is diligent in doing their research and seeking out an accredited source for healthcare treatment. Of primary consideration is the cost savings that is associated with medical tourism, especially in countries where the cost of domestic healthcare is increasing at an ever-growing rate. Due to the technological advancements and global standards of care in the healthcare industry, medical tourists can enjoy treatments that are as good as, if not better than, the treatments they would receive on their home turf. When time is of the essence, many people come to find that the only way to get fast medical treatment is to travel. Add to that the enjoyment of having a vacation abroad in conjunction with a necessary or elective surgery or treatment, and many people decide that medical tourism is the answer. Thanks to increasing ease and relative low cost of international travel, getting to the destination isn't nearly as hard as it may have once been. In short, many people today are finding that the Greeks were pretty smart when they first introduced the idea of medical tourism thousands of years ago.

Airport Transfers Aren't Just For Popular Resorts

I wanted an exotic holiday this year but I didn't want to pay the earth for it. Some of the quotes that I got from package holiday companies were absolutely ridiculous and far outside of the budget I had allocated. I went to lots of package holiday companies, both on the internet and on the high street but they were literally over a thousand pounds more than I was prepared to pay, both because I couldn't afford it and because I simply didn't believe that it actually cost that much. I decided instead, to book my airport transfers, flights and accommodation individually myself and it actually ended up coming in below my actual budget!

If you want to save money, this is a great way to do it. I knew that travel agents added a premium but some of the charges are astronomical, particularly the mark up on airport transfers I have been charged in the past. Before booking my airport transfers or anything like that, the first thing I did was checked that the hotel I wanted to stay in was actually available for the dates I wanted - obviously you need to do this first, after all - you don't want to book your airport transfers and flights and then find you have nowhere to stay. I found the hotels official website and sent then an enquiry email directly, they were prompt in responding and the price they quoted me was a fraction of that a travel agent would have charged me.

I then booked my flights and this is a great way to save money, I even opted not to have an in-flight meal, after all - over £50 for two people is pretty expensive when you think about it, you can eat at a nice restaurant for that price. Why pay that when you can grab a snack at the airport for far less.

The final part was the airport transfers. Our destination was quite exotic and off the beaten track so to be honest I was half expecting airport transfers companies to not offer it but I was amazed to find that they all did. I had saved so much money with the flights and accommodation that I decided to splash out on the airport transfers and booked private transport but it was still pretty cheap for a 3 hour drive and the whole holiday came in less than my budget. I thought airport transfers were just for popular resorts but they offer transport in lots of different more exotic locations.

To Be Or Not to Be - An Expat Guide to Living in Bulgaria

The truth behind why more and more expatriates (expats) are deciding to settle down in Bulgaria generally lies on the economic stability of the country.

Aside from the approximately seven million tourists that annually flock this state in southeastern Europe, Bulgaria has also been host to numerous expats for many years already. An expat guide would tell that nation's recent inclusion to the political and economic organization, European Union (EU) contributed much to their decision.

When Bulgaria entered the said organization in 2007, it received a much needed promotional boost and its name got luster in it unlike before when an expat guide wouldn't highly recommend the place for its lack of global appeal which other nations possess like Portugal and Spain.

A basic expat guide to Bulgaria would further disclose the other reasons why the country is being chosen by more expats-who are the kind of people that are very particular with the security of their future. For one, an expat tax guide in living in Bulgaria would render further appeal among expats.

Here are some of the reasons why Bulgaria remains one of the top picks:
The Climate Bulgaria is blessed with a temperate climate; there is a hot (summer) and cold (winter) season but nothing extreme for both seasons

The Economy The prices of goods in Bulgaria are affordable and the cost of living here is low; the expat tax guide would even reveal "friendly" tax scheme for expats

The Peace and Order
Crime rate is low especially when compared to cities in the United Kingdom There are also plenty of employment opportunities for expats and for those who are American citizens, the expat tax guide will inform that they will be doubly taxed: each by their former (USA) and present home (Bulgaria).

In conclusion, Bulgaria is indeed one ideal country for expats to settle down. No doubt about that.

When Will You Visit Bourgas?

Situated on the east coast of Bulgaria, Bourgas is home to one of the most popular airports in Bulgaria, which is where people who are travelling on to Sunny Beach, Nessesbar, Sozopol, Dyuni and Elinet land. However there's more to Bourgas than just a gateway to other places.

4. Spring could be the ideal time to visit this part of Bulgaria, as it's warmer than the winter, but not hot like in the summer. For those in the know, June is reckoned to be the best time to visit, as it's warm enough, but not too hot to do anything.

With cheaper labour than in Western Europe, you might be able to save your company time as well as well as money.

7. You can learn more about Bourgas, and Bulgaria, by visiting the District Museum of History, the Museum of Nature and Science or the Ethnographic Museum whilst you're here. If you don't want to spend all of your day sunbathing, or skiing, then why not learn more about the area and the history of the region?

8. You'll be pleased to know that there us accommodation to suit all budgets, so no matter whether you need a large room in a hotel for a fortnight, or just somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights, you'll be able to find somewhere to stay, quickly and easily.

9. As there is a large student population, and visitors in both summer and winter, there is great nightlife on offer, and plenty of restaurants too. You can still enjoy yourselves when the sun goes down in Bourgas.

10. Thanks to budget airlines, it's really easy to get to Bourgas, and flights and accommodation is inexpensive, meaning that there's not excuse not to visit bourgas.

Now you know more about what there is to see and do here, isn't it time for you to book your flights to Bourgas?

Forget Exotic Ski Resorts, France is Still Favourite With Brits

The world of skiing is becoming increasingly more interesting as new ski frontiers open up, offering snow sport fans the chance to ski in more exotic locations than ever before. Japan, Chile, Lebanon, Slovakia, Bulgaria and many more countries not renowned for their mountains are attracting British skiers who are looking for a ski experience that's a little out of the ordinary.

However, despite the availability of these new destinations, which are gaining a bigger slice of the ski market, France still remains the most popular location to ski for the Brits and it's not hard to see why.

France offers arguably the best skiing in Europe, with dozens of huge resorts in the Alps, not to mention the lesser known range of the Pyrenees. It also has one of the best cuisines in the world and due to having the highest mountains in Europe, (with resorts like Val Thorens), you can be fairly certain that you'll actually have real snow to ski on, even in this age of global warming which is threatening the survival of ski areas situated at lower altitudes. And on top of all this, France's close proximity to the UK and the huge number of cheap flights now available means that skiers can be on the slopes in just a few hours.

Resorts like Brides Les Bains, Tignes Val Claret, Morzine, La Clusaz, Chamonix, Thollon and Les Arcs are all close to major airports, and with ever more airlines offering low prices on flights to Lyon and Geneva, getting to these resorts is quick and easy and won't break the bank.

France also offers skiing in the lesser known ranges of the Massif Central and the Pyrenees, mountains that are completely separate from the Alps. Although not as famous or fashionable as the better known French resorts, these areas can offer cheaper and often quieter alternatives to the old favourites.

So, although some skiing and snowboarding adventurists are seeking snow further a field, France's close proximity to the UK, its ease of access and the low cost of travelling there, are likely to keep it at the number one spot as the Brit's favourite ski playground.

Vacation Rentals - 4 Tips To Rent At Affordable Prices

Vacation rentals have emerged as an excellent substitute to hotel rooms. Several benefits offered by these vacation homes have made them the first choice of tourists all over the world. Some of the major advantages are more space, homely comforts and complete privacy that are enticing countless tourists. Here are 4 useful tips on how you can enjoy all these benefits by paying less money.

1. Choose The Right Destination

First of all, pick the right destination. There are many destinations where vacation rentals are available at reasonable prices. Mexico, Goa and Bulgaria are just few examples of this kind of places. If Europe is the continent where you wish to go, think of Portugal and Spain, as you can get homes there within your means.

2. Choose A Remote Location

Next, you need to consider location of vacation rentals. Try to rent at a distance from the locations in high demand and you can get larger villas with many additional features like swimming pool at much lower rates. You should not hesitate while making any such decision because remotely located vacation condos have their own advantages.

You get an opportunity to spend your vacations at a calm and peaceful location while enjoying countryside settings. Moreover, you will not miss the pleasure of beach activities also because you have the option of hiring a car that can take you there in very short period. So, you can clinch a nice deal by making a little compromise.

3. Plan Your Vacation During Off Season

Timing of your vacations is also very important if you wish to enjoy benefits of vacation houses by paying less money. Get information about peak tourist season and off-season at the destination you are going. Then, plan your vacations when inflow of tourists is minimum. You will get a wider range of vacation homes, villas and condos to choose from. Moreover, owners will be happy to offer you discounts up to 30 %. You can also save some money on flights and hiring cars when you visit during off-season.

4. Contact Owner Directly

Always rent directly from the owner. When you rent with the help of an agency, they eat up a major portion of rent as fees. Owner will be happy to pass on a part of his or her savings when you rent directly from him or her without any mediating agency.

Why Romania Is A Holiday Must This Summer

Planning a vacation? Well Romania is "the" place to be...it is the most diverse country in terms of climate, terrain, flora and fauna; snow capped mountains and a sultry coastline- you can ski on snow or on water!

It is located in southeastern Europe. Romania is surrounded by Ukraine to the north, Hungary to its north west, Moldova to the north east and Bulgaria in the south. The famous river Danube flows through Romania from the northwest to the east into the equally famous black sea after forming a picturesque delta- the famous Danube delta!

Romanians are known to be very friendly and hospitable people. The national language is Romanian and others include Hungarian and German. Most Romanians can also communicate fluently in English.

How to get to Romania?

If you are in Europe you can get to Romania by train, road or a sea cruise!
If you are in another part of the world then the most convenient airline is the AUSTRIAN. For the flight details, you can either visit an international travel agent in your area or book your tickets online the latter is preferable if you want to move about and discover the place on your own and of course if you have done it on previous vacations to other places. Trip to Disneyland

Hunt for Discounts for Your Disneyland Trip. Planning a Disneyland trip to reward yourselves or your kids for something well done? Congratulations. A trip to Disneyland is one of the finest things you can do with your family on vacation, but before you plan all the details of your trip, make sure that you explore all the discounts you might be able to use on your trip.

The first thing to consider is the transportation costs over to Disneyland. If you are flying, look for discount flights at the many websites that will find the lowest fares for you. These websites subscribe to databases that access discounted flights from almost all airports across the country, and they may be able to find great fares for you and your family. If you're driving, there aren't too many ways to take advantage of discounts because fuel is almost always sold at retail prices.

The hotel is the next major expense on a Disneyland trip. Here you're lucky because there are many hotels that will book rooms for you at discounted rates, particularly if you call them a few days ahead of time. Hotels hate to have vacant rooms, and the manager might prefer to book a room at a lower rate than have it be empty overnight. Make sure you have an alternative reservation somewhere else in case you can't get a better rate by booking on short notice. Nothing is worse than going to Disneyland and having to scramble to find a place to stay.

Look for discounted tickets to get into Disneyland. These can be hard to find, but one certain way to get cheaper tickets is to order them online from the Disneyland site. They have multiple day offers that will save you money compared to buying the tickets at the gate. If you are spending several days exploring Disneyland, this is definitely your best option for discounted tickets.

You can also buy a package to get to Disneyland that includes your airfare, hotel, car rental, and some discounts on meals. Your tickets will be part of the package. By doing the math, you might find that taking advantage of a package will give you the best possible deal possible. Once you have made your plans for your Disneyland trip, enjoy it. It is one of the most memorable and enjoyable places to visit in Southern California, and you and your kids may never forget it.

Interesting Facts About Israel

OK, so we know quite a bit about Israel; the places to go, the food to eat and the beaches to visit. But here are a few more interesting facts about the Holy Land that you probably weren't aware of. Bosnia Vacation Number 6 of 7

This is a trip that I took with my sister to Bosnia and Herzegovina in April, 2008. We rented a car in Sarajevo, and drove through several countries (including Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, and Serbia). We had connecting flights in Germany and Slovenia...and spent a bit of time in these countries as well. My original plans were to visit Argentina, but I couldn't get there and back on my US Airways frequent flier miles. After many, MANY hours on the phone with the US Air Gold Desk, I finally asked, "Well, where on Earth CAN I go with my miles?" The answer: Bosnia and Herzegovina. So, we packed our bags and headed to Sarajevo! Is it crazy to go to Bosnia for vacation? Well, most of our friends and family thought so. I tell you what, though. I'd go back there in a heartbeat! It was inexpensive, the food was fantastic, and the people are very warm and generous. Hopefully, after watching the video, you'll agree that the Balkan countries make for a great vacation destination! As always, PLEASE leave comments! It took hours and &#?&! hours to put this video together. I want to know what you think!

What Would Be If the Evil Had Never Existed?

Evil is everywhere - in nature, among people, in the sky or below it. It can be faced in the form of death, accident, injury, murder, robbery, adultery, natural disasters... and so on. But who is the reason evil to exist in our world? Is it an immutable art of good or it has a beginning and consequently will have an end?

Does Every Single Person Is Evil?

Unfortunately, the good is not our inherent quality. Even in innocent babies, you can notice some features of evil - crying every midnight, or crying when you forbid them something that is not good for them. When the baby grows up, the little kid prefers to play with other children's toys and to not give his own. It sounds strange but the evil could be found even in babies! If so what to say for adults?

What Is The Origin Of Evil?

The Evil began with rebellion and with pride. Pride is actually the basis of the evil. Did you ever think about that?

What Ezekiel 28 chapter - 14 to17 verses say is that there was a beautiful and very wise God creature, which had access to God presence, but because of the rebellion and violence that have arisen in his heart, it was expelled from heaven by God.

"Your heart was filled with pride

because of all your beauty."

So there was a beautiful, blameless and innocent creature of God, which somehow step by step developed a pride in its heart and this was the beginning of evil.

One of the basic features of evil is that it always seeks for followers. The same happen to this creature also - he started to convince the other heaven creatures - angels to support him in his rebellion against God - and too many were also infected by evil.

Here is the Bible report about these events happened in heaven. Revelation, chapter 12, verses 7 -9 say that the war had broken out in heaven among two groups - the Michael who is Jesus and his angels and dragon or Satan and decoyed by him angels. The victory was won by Jesus and the Satan and his followers were thrown down to this world.

Oh no, where the devil and his angels was thrown? To the earth - in our world. That is why you and me now suffering of the consequences of evil. But why he was thrown here? Was it fair decision of God?
