Skiing in Bulgaria

Ok, so I know Bulgaria isn't likely to be the first place that springs to mind when you think about a skiing vacation.  However, you'd be surprised to learn that Bulgaria is becoming an increasingly popular destination of choice for holiday makers across Europe, and the world.  A new breed of European country, Bulgaria is beginning to build towards becoming an industrialised, metropolitan nation.  The eastern European nation has a surprising depth of history and culture, and is truly an excellent place to discover.  With this national growth comes the development of its inherent passion for skiing, and this is evident across the country, with various ski resorts springing up all over the place.
Bulgaria's most recognised ski resort is Bansko.  As a result of massive investment in Bulgaria, particularly in the development of the tourism industries, Bansko is undergoing extensive refurbishment and modernisation, to create a facility that can compete on a world scale.  As well as time and money spent on developing hotels, luxurious apartments, ski lifts and other facilities, there is also a great deal being ploughed into refining the actual slopes themselves, to ensure a high quality, internationally acceptable skiing conditions.  With impressive snow coverage from late November through to spring, Bansko is an ideal location for a ski resort, and this is reflected by its increasing popularity.  The beautiful village itself is rich in history and tradition, and you'll find the people very warm and welcoming; eager to please, and ensure you have a good time.
Another of Bulgaria's major ski resorts is Pamporovo, situated on the Rhodopi Mountain.  A thoroughly modernised resort, Pamporovo boasts an extensive training academy and well maintained ski runs for all abilities.  The most southern resort in Europe, Pamporovo benefits from a particularly sunny climate, with around four months of sunshine, and plenty of snow.  That means you'll never be skiing in too unpleasant conditions!  Pamporovo is also more than adequately equipped to deal with holiday makers in terms of auxiliary services, and has recently unveiled plans for a state of the art ski lift.  With so much time and investment being spent on these slopes, it really is an ideal time to visit Bulgaria.
Of course the beauty of Bulgaria as a great skiing location is that it is relatively untouched and undiscovered.  This means that you can benefit from the excellent facilities without having to contend with too many tourists.  Thus, Bulgaria provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy skiing in eace and quiet, in idyllic settings.  Additionally, for a trip in Bulgaria, you're going to be paying significantly less than other European countries for the same amazing weather and fantastic skiing.  Bulgaria really is a win/win location for any skiing holiday.
With such extensive investment in the nation, Bulgaria is an up and coming holiday destination as it pushes towards European integration.  By nursing an ever strengthening tourism industry, the nation is growing continually, and this is great news for skiing enthusiasts who can benefit from its excellent natural resources and ski resort facilities.  Additionally, with such a quality-orientated approach, Bulgaria is challenging the more industrialised European nations in terms of service and produce. For a low cost, high quality skiing vacation, Bulgaria has to be a consideration, so why not book your vacation, and discover Europe's best kept skiing secret for yourself?

Bulgaria Black Sea Coast

You may not think of Bulgaria as your next travel destination. But, let me change your mind. This small country is unlike any other European destination swarming with tourists.
Bulgaria has almost everything that any traveler wishes to see and experience. It has an impressive array of glitzy beachside resorts in the Black Sea Region, its own share of frosted mountains and great skiing locales, beautifully preserved centuries-old towns, great architectural marvels and so much more.
Let's pay close attention to the famous Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria. Aside from the capital city of Sofia, this region is perhaps the most visited destination in the country. The area is not only famous for its sandy beaches and big time resorts but also for its warm spring waters that are believed to have therapeutic effects on those who are lucky enough to bathe in them.
The resort complex of Golden Sands features the best of both worlds. It boasts of 4 km of idyllic beaches and several hot springs. It is ideally nestled at the foot of Zlatni Piasaci National Park making it a great base for some outdoor exploration and adventure. There are also plenty of entertainment options, luxury hotel accommodations, restaurants and bars in the area for the enjoyment and pleasure of its visitors.
Next on the itinerary is Sunny Beach just a short 35 km drive north of Bourgas. It is located right smack in the middle of a semi-circular bay and enjoys 8 km of sandy beach. At its background are the imposing peaks of the Balkan mountain ranges making it one of the most picturesque beach destinations in Bulgaria. The area mostly caters to families and offers plenty of fun and adventures to all members of the brood. Its backyard is comprised of golden sand dunes, just perfect for a great day time adventure for the whole family to enjoy.
Not far away from Sunny Beach lies Nessebur. To arrive at the area, you have to pass through a long and narrow isthmus to gain access to the tiny peninsula where Nessebur is located. It is a charming and picturesque town that is considered as one of the oldest in the continent. Its history spans 9,000 years back to the time of the Thracians. Its historical legacy and old-world splendor made it to the UNESCO World Heritage site. You will have an incredible time exploring this chocolate box of a town by simply taking lazy strolls along its narrow cobblestone streets, sampling small town fare at its taverns and popping into medieval churches - there's no idle time to spare when in the area.
There are several beach resorts in the area and the selections of museums and art galleries are some of the best in Bulgaria. You also want to stop by its 19th century Assumption of the Virgin Cathedral and ruins of a Roman Spa. Nearby attractions that may be of interest to you include the nature reserve of Kamchia and the dramatic rock formations of Balchik.
To complete your Bulgaria Black Sea Coast exploration, a visit to the city of Varna is imperative. Imagine tiers of charming houses and buildings rising above the bend of Varna Bay and you have one spectacular destination.

"Bye bye Serbia, Hello Bulgaria" I_could_walk's photos about Negotin, Serbia

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Negotin, Serbia by TravelPod blogger I_could_walk titled "Bye bye Serbia, Hello Bulgaria" I_could_walk's travel blog entry: "Late last night I picked up an email from the danish girls suggesting a new rendevous and date. And it sounded feasible if i got a move on. So looking at the map I saw a road which seemed to head directly for the Bulgarian border rather than all the way round a massive loop in the river. The map indicated two steep hills so this wasn't a free ride. The hotel quietened down a bit after 1am but having aircon was glorious. I woke up to another gorgeous view; its an amazing place. At breakfast the waiter offered coffee with milk; without it was extra. I suggested to him that at e42 per night it wasn't on and asked for hot water (fetching coffee from the room). But he was ahead of me and brought it no charge anyway. The early morning ride was very nice following an inlet of the danube then crossing a bridge before joining a rolling road through small villages. There was very little traffic and in one town the market was organised on the road without bothering to close it. It was like a good french ride. It wasn't flat but the gradients were gradual. Then i turned on to the road to Negotin. It was a winding road which went up through a wooded valley past some charcoal kilns. It was steep and it went on forever. Really hard to keep going at; it took maybe 45 minutes to ride up. One of the hardest hills I ...

Guardò Rosinka ballare in lontananza. Rosinka moma legnala I ...

Bulgaria: A Hidden Life -Trailer

This trailer presents the first 10 minutes of the CRTN - documentary "A Hidden Life." Production Date: 2008 Duration: 41 Copyright: CRTN Language: English, German, French, Spanish, Czech Executive Producer: Mark Riedemann Director: Magdalena Wolnik With the coming to power of the Communists in Bulgaria, religious communities became increasingly oppressed. Continuously controlled, continuously observed the sisters were subject to ever more intimidating interrogations and ruder searches. Some of them, such as the Carmelites, awaited prison sentences. In 1948 the authorities started to confiscate Church run schools, convents and orphanages, forcing the sisters to move to a hidden life in tucked away corners such as choir lofts or abandoned buildings. This is the story of how two religious communities, the Carmelites and the Eucharistine sisters, survived this time.
